PAST SALE: 2014 BULL SALE

Thank all the buyers & under-bidders for your support, we trust your new bulls will perform well for you.

Local Angus Stud from Strength to Strength ~ as published in the Merriwa District Diary

Matt Cherry and Shelley Piper of Trio Angus are to be congratulated on the top quality line-up of bulls presented at their Annual On-Property Bull Sale last Thursday. Strong support from both new & repeat clients led to a 97% clearance of the 36 bulls offered and an overall average price of $4,181.

The 25 two year old bulls on offer topped at $7500 & averaged $4438 whilst the 11 yearlings bulls on offer topped at $5500 & averaged $4,000.

The top priced bull, Lot 1 Trio Evident H78, was purchased by local, repeat buyers John & Ainsley Maben of Merriwa. The 24 month old bull, by Dunoon Evident E614, weighed 934kg and drew attention for his great phenotype & high estimated breeding values, including an eye muscle area of +10.8 and a 600 day weight of +126. "This bull was a stand-out for us, he had length and depth and excellent carcase traits. We bought a Trio Angus bull last year and have been very happy with his performance and temperament." said Mr Maben.

The McMullin Partnership from Scone secured two bulls on the day including the second top priced bull Trio Bojangles H41 for $7000. They also purchased Trio Bojangles H85, the heaviest bull in the draft at 958kg, for $6,000.

Repeat clients John & Julia Anderson, Mullaley, secured the top-priced yearling bull, Trio Upward J2 for $5500. This bull offered a great combination of low birth weight and excellent growth.

Sons of the US sire Hoover Dam were the most sought after on the day with progeny of the Australian record priced bull, Dunoon Evident, also in high demand.

Over half of the bulls went to breeders in the Coolah, Dunedoo and Merriwa areas. Whilst other bulls went further afield to Mudgee, Mullaley, Barraba, Scone and Willow Tree.

The sale was conducted by Rockwell Livestock & Property, Merriwa and Galton & Co, Gunnedah using the Helmsman Auction System. This included a video preview of each lot with many buyers commenting on the benefits of using this alternate selling method. Buyers also commented on the exceptional temperament of the bulls and appreciated the free delivery service offered on all purchases.

Local agent Tony Inder of Rockwell Livestock & Property, said "2014 presents a real challenge to bull breeders with poor seasonal conditions & declining cow numbers leading to less demand for bulls, but in light of these conditions the result at Trio Angus this year is outstanding. Breeding bulls that meet their client's demand for growth, carcase quality and softness has certainly paid off for Trio Angus in a tough year. "

Stud principles Matt Cherry and Shelley Piper were very pleased with the sale result. ‘A lot of breeders seized the opportunity to upgrade their bulls and buy top genetics at affordable prices which was great to see’ Matt said.
